Yigit Gunel

Yigit Gunel  is a London-based multidisciplinary photographer whose work centres around people-based stories, captured through a meticulous approach to lighting and a focus on authenticity. Since founding CULT in 2022, he has expanded his practice to include Cult Creative Meet-ups, a platform for artists and creatives in East London to connect and openly discuss the mental health challenges within the creative industry.

Yiğit was selected for the London Creative Network Artist Development Programme in 2021 with Four Corners and continues to exhibit his work both locally and internationally. His notable exhibitions include New Photography (2015) at Alan Istanbul and 34 Women 34 Portraits (2012) at the Antalya Film Festival, among others.

His work has been published in Photographing a Rebellion by Ozcan Yurdalan (2014) and Moscow Diary, a self-publication in 2005. He has also lectured and conducted workshops on storytelling through photography, advanced lighting techniques, and portraiture, most recently hosting ongoing monthly Cult Creative Meet-ups in East London.

This contemporary triptych delves into the psychological progression throughemotional states, employing minimalist composition against consistent beigebackgrounds to form a cohesive visual narrative.

Throughout the series, the neutral background creates a contemplative, almost clinical space for reflection. The monochromatic palette draws attention to form over surface detail, encouraging viewers to consider the cyclical nature of emotional processing and the nuanced journey from anger and self-doubt to growth and renewal.
