OPEN CALL | Photo Exhibition
On the Road
Versus Arts invites photographers worldwide to submit work for an upcoming group exhibition in London.
Taking inspiration from On the Road by Jack Kerouac, this exhibition reflects on the enduring human impulse toward movement, freedom, and the unknown.
This open call invites photographic works that consider the road not only as a physical route, but as a space shaped by movement, memory, encounter, and transformation. We welcome diverse perspectives engaging with ideas of transition, belonging, displacement, and change, and encourage works that reflect on how movement informs personal and collective experience.
The road extends beyond a physical route, becoming a space where identity, memory, and experience are constantly reshaped.
We invite photographers to respond to the notion of the road as a site of transition and transformation.
Is it a form of escape, a search for meaning, or a point of no return?
Themes of migration, borders, transience, chance, isolation, velocity, pause, and encounter are central to this open call.
Selected works will form a curated dialogue between individual perspectives and shared realities, engaging with the legacy of On the Road while offering new visual interpretations of movement in a contemporary context.

FAQs
Who can apply to Versus Arts?
We welcome submissions from emerging and established artists, as well as independent curators, from all over the world. Whether you are locally based in London, across the UK, or international, we are open to diverse perspectives and creative backgrounds.
What kind of artistic practices do you represent?
Versus Arts is a multidisciplinary platform. We accept proposals across all visual arts mediums, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, installations, and new media. Our primary focus is on original voices and cohesive creative visions.
Can I propose a specific exhibition concept?
Absolutely. We encourage unique exhibition proposals from both artists (solo/group) and curators. Your proposal should include a clear conceptual framework, a list of participating artists (if applicable), and visual references of the works to be showcased.
How far in advance should I submit my proposal?
Our exhibition calendar is typically finalized two to three months in advance. We recommend submitting your proposal as early as possible to ensure your preferred dates can be considered.
Who is responsible for shipping and insurance?
Generally, artists or curators are responsible for the transportation of works to and from the gallery. While the works are on our premises, they are covered by our gallery insurance. However, we recommend artists maintain their own "in-transit" insurance.
Can I host a private event or a talk during my exhibition?
We encourage artists to host Artist Talks, workshops, or private viewings. Please mention this in your proposal so we can coordinate the logistics and promotion.
How does the "Curator-in-Residence" or Guest Curator model work?
Independent curators can "hire" the gallery space for their own curated group shows. In this model, the curator maintains full creative control over the selection, while Versus Arts provides the professional venue, staff support, and marketing reach.
